The point is
1) to organize and link information in a way that facilitates preparing for comps down the road, hopefully using blog tools to make a beautiful piece of creative academic architecture
2) to discover what the shit I'm going to write my dissertation about
3) to be able to write about academics in a more free, cathartic, profane, irreverent way than I am able to in formal papers
4) to fly in the face of the misguided belief that my information and ideas have higher value locked in a closet than in the public world where they might actually help someone, maybe even - gasp! - a fellow scholar
